Legends of Soul: Aretha Franklin + The Commitments
Get ready for an unforgettable night of music that pays homage to two of the most iconic names in the world of soul: Aretha Franklin, the undisputed Queen of Soul, and the ‘saviours of Irish Soul’ The Commitments, the beloved band from the cult classic 1991 film.
We kick off the night with a high-energy tribute to The Commitments, presented by none other than The Australian Commitments Show. This 11-member ensemble brings to life soul favourites that made the 1991 film a beloved classic, with hits like Wilson Pickett’s ‘Mustang Sally’ and ‘In The Midnight Hour’, Otis Redding’s ‘Try A Little Tenderness’, and many more.
Then, be blown away by a stunning combination of four of Canberra’s most sought-after female vocalists and an accomplished band featuring guitar, keys, drums, bass, blues piano, and saxophone. Fresh from their highly-lauded debut, this tribute more than does justice to Aretha's timeless classics with a focus on her more upbeat hits such as ‘Respect’, ‘Think’, ‘Come Back Baby’ as well as her 80s hits ‘Freeway of Love’ and ‘Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves’. The intricate three-part vocal harmonies, a hallmark of Aretha’s hits, will be a highlight.
Arrival. Doors to The Zeppelin Room will open 7.00pm for 8pm show start.
Accessibility. The Zeppelin Room and toilets (outside the auditorium) have wheelchair access.
Parking. There is an ample number of parking spaces on our grounds, on the street outside and the grass area right next to the club.
