THE BLOOZ

The Blooz hosts Canberra Blues Society May Pro Blues Jam.

The Blooz is five Canberra based musicians playing Chicago blues - that soulful blend of groove and electric guitar that powers the music of John Lee Hooker, B.B.King, Albert and Freddy King, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and more.

The band formed 2 years ago and has been playing at venues around Canberra. The sound is tight and soulful, exploring the full range of electric blues music from Chicago in the 1950s to today’s sophisticated take on the idiom. The Blooz repertoire also features original compositions inspired by the masters.

Russell Moran - Guitar and Vocals   Guitarist in the Australian touring bands of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Jeff St John in the mid 1970s. From the 60s until now, Russell still plays blues. He must like it. The Blooz plays a number of Russell's blues inspired compositions.

Stephen Webb - Drums   Stephen is the session drummer on many 1970s Australian recordings. He has played in many 1970s blues rock bands, including Black Feather, Chariot, Band of Talabene and the John Farnham and John English. Locally with Annie and the Armadillos and Smooth Operators. Steve's drumming is the powerful driving groove behind the Blooz.

James Hoogstad - Tenor Sax and Blues Harp   Cut his musical teeth in Adelaide blues outfit ‘Too Many Cats’ too long ago. Rock and roll and other blues bands followed, including horn section work with big band ‘Capacity Max’. Moving to Canberra, worked in local corporate bands, ‘Crisp’ and ‘Night and Day.’ Drifted back to soul, soul jazz and rhythm & blues bands including, ‘Naked Soul,’ ‘Judi Pearce and the Arrangement’ ‘Minglewood Blues Band’, ’The Jukes’ ‘The Turnaround’, ‘Dean Edgecombe and the Seventh Sons”, 'Iconics Commitments Show’ and ‘The Blooz”.

Kurt Roberts - Bass   Kurt has been grooving on bass and guitar for over twenty-five years. Everything from Grunge, Funk, Big Band Jazz, Classical and Contemporary Music has passed under his fingers. Studied Jazz and Classical guitar at Melbourne Polytechnic. A great musician to play Bass in the Blooz

Simon Evans - Guitar   Simon loves playing the blues. His Strat is a great addition to the Blooz lineup.

The host band will be followed by some of the finest musicians in the region jamming together for a great afternoon of live blues music. So bring your family, bring your friends and don’t forget your dancing shoes.
