Monica Moore & The LCB

Canberra Blues Society June Pro Blues Jam hosted by Monica Moore and The LCB feat. Ali Penney on keys.

Monica Moore and The LCB is a straight up honest Blues band who love playing music together. The band features powerhouse vocals from Monica Moore, blistering guitar from Damian Spencer and the rock-solid rhythm section of Jon Jones on drums and John Van Buuren on bass.

Between them they have played at a large number of Australian and overseas festivals - blues at Thredbo, Goulburn, Lithgow, and Canberra, folk at Woodford, Port Fairy, National Folk Festival, Edmondton (USA), Calgary (Canada), and country at Tamworth, Gympie Muster, Bungendore Muster and Grafton Country Music Festival. They have appeared at many major Canberra events and festivals including Enlighten, Floriade, Skyfire, the National Multicultural Festival, NAIDOC in the North and International Blues Music Day.

The band draws inspiration from recordings by Koko Taylor, Etta James and Big Mama Thornton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Asleep At The Wheel, and an awful lot from each other.

With backgrounds in bands like The Funkologists, The Cherrypickers, Long John, The 708s, Eric Bogle touring and recording bands, Fred Smith band and the Monica Moore Duo/Trio, their superb musicianship will be bringing to life Blues standards, original songs plus a number of rarer blues tunes, all with a power and sensitivity that makes this band one of the most popular Blues bands in Canberra.

Joining the LCB for this Jam is the wonderful Ali Penney on keys. Ali doesn’t need an introduction. She has won six Chain awards and performed in pretty much every Blues festival in the country.

“This girl plays piano like an 80-year-old black guy – she’s gotta lotta soul,” said Freddy King’s right-hand-man, guitarist Andrew ‘Junior Boy’ Jones.

We've heard a rumour there may be another surprise guest playing with the host band too!

The Host band will be followed by some of the finest musicians in the Canberra region jamming together for a fabulous afternoon of live Blues music.

So grab your family, grab your friends and join us as we celebrate the Blues.
